Whichever option you choose, the bathrooms are all provided with towels and toiletries, and a continental breakfast of croissants and homemade jam, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, toast and marmalades is brought to your door each morning – naturally on tableware made in the pottery. Each room has a kettle and choice of hot drinks, a hairdryer, and the inside rooms have good wifi and Freeview TVs. If you fancy trying a spot of pot-throwing, so much the better (they have featured on BBC's 'The Great Pottery Throwdown'); but even if you don't there is loads to do nearby, from the beaches, shops and pubs of Milford on Sea itself, to the nearby Keyhaven marshes and Hurst Spit, and delights of Lymington and the New Forest just a few minutes away.

In the converted old stables of a Victorian manor house, this unique and charming B&B is the perfect place to stay for those heading to the Hampshire coast or looking for somewhere close to the New Forest National Park. Run by David and Lucy Rogers, it's part of the pottery workshops next door, but guests don't need to be up-and-coming ceramicists to stay here. Indeed, even if you pass up the opportunity of David's expert tuition, the prime location in Milford on Sea makes this a winning place to stay, with not just two beautifully furnished B&B rooms but a two-person gypsy caravan too for properly romantic breaks – plus they have a comfortably 6-bed house nearby for large groups who prefer self-catering.
The two principal guest rooms – The Hayloft and The Garden Room – sleep 2 and 2–4 respectively and are as self-contained as you like. The Hayloft is a lovely beamed space, very private, accessed via an external spiral staircase, with an ensuite bathroom with a spacious walk-in shower, heated towel rail and a hand basin crafted in the pottery itself – no TV but excellent wifi. The Garden Room is more of a suite, with a king-size bed and two singles, and a separate sitting room with a TV so is perfect for a young family or groups of friends; its spacious en-suite bathroom has both a bath and a powerful shower, plus there is a patio garden with outside seating and a table and chimeneas to keep you warm (shared with the gypsy caravan).
Finally the third option is the wonderfully restored showman's wagon which overlooks the woodland garden. Hand-painted by one of the last trained gypsy wagon painters in the country, this 1880s antique is only lacking a horse or two, but what it does have is a beautifully cosy interior with handcrafted fixtures and fittings, a full-size double bed topped with a luxury duvet and a hand-made lace bedspread – and a share of the nearby patio (with the Garden Room) for a spot of star-gazing. It also has its own shower room just a few paces away.

Milford on Sea is traditional English seaside village with village green, ancient church and a pebble beach with views of the Isle of Wight. At low tide a sand bank is revealed to create a wonderful lagoon. Vinegar Hill is a ten minute walk to both the village green and the beach. The nearby Keyhaven Marshes are part of the New Forest National Park – an area of salt marsh and mudflats between Lymington and Keyhaven that it is a haven for birdlife throughout the year. The marshes are protected by Hurst Spit, which leads to Henry VIII’s Hurst Castle perched right on the end, from where you can almost reach out and touch the Isle of Wight. Climb to the roof and enjoy the magnificent 360-degree views of the Solent. The picturesque Georgian market town of Lymington is a 10-minute drive – or an hour's walk – away (along the Sea Wall from Keyhaven), and the main part of the spectacular New Forest National Park just 10 minutes beyond there.Open
