It may be an old log shed but this is a really cosy, boutique stay for two in a lovingly restored building on the owner's property. With a clever use of up-cycled materials, and a good dollop of rustic style, this is a stylish bolthole, full of quirky touches and charm. It's laid out over two floors, with an open-plan kitchen and breakfast room downstairs and a small courtyard outside – as well as access to a private, sunny, walled garden (nice and secure for dogs) with a simple barbecue (you'll need to bring your own charcoal and firelighters). There's even a veg patch, where you can help yourself to strawberries in season. The kitchen has a combi-microwave, single hob, plug-in mini-oven, kettle and toaster, so while you're probably not going to be entertaining lavishly, there's everything here you might need for straightforward meals for two – and supplies for breakfast can be arranged too.
Up the wooden stairs, under the eaves, is another open-plan room with a handmade, superking bed, an L-shaped sofa bed (so you could sleep four at a pinch), and separate bathroom with bath and handheld shower. There's underfloor heating throughout, but while there's a TV and 4G coverage, there's no WiFi meaning it's ideal for a digital detox. Your dog is welcome but they need to be kept downstairs and under control when outside as the owner has livestock – and besides, there's a lovely separate private garden for your four-legged friend to run around. Good walking routes are plentiful, including a stroll to the local pub in Naunton, a twenty-minute walk away on country lanes. Or if you're equestrian-obsessed, The Old Log Shed makes an ideal base for a horseriding holiday with paddocks and stabling available and a wealth of fantastic riding routes in the area. Another nearby village, Guiting Power, has a great farm shop and also sumptuous breakfasts served in the Old Post Office cafe.
As for the wider location, this really is one of the most beautiful parts of England, with charming Cotswolds destinations like Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water just a ten-minute drive away. And with Cheltenham and Gloucester to the west and Oxford to the east, there's plenty of historic interest nearby too. The Old Log Shed is a perfect romantic Cotswolds retreat for two.
