A decent pizza and authentic pasta in Ambleside means Zeffirellis, the classy vegetarian place attached to the town’s cinema. It operates as a café by day, though the full Italian menu – pasta, pizza, mains and salads – is also available daily from 10am, which makes it a great place for early or late meals (there’s a popular movie-and-meal deal, for which reservations are advised). The mood changes from daytime caff to dim-lit dining in the evening, and with a cool jazz bar upstairs too, with live music (often free) a few nights a week, it all adds up to a great night out.
